Hampton Court Palace

The garden is a nod to the growing trend of our outdoor living and alfresco dining, set at 45 degrees to create an altered sense of space and depth, everything is offset and thus allows for much larger plant beds when compared to a standard geometric layout.

The clients are a young couple from New Zealand, with impeccable taste, they want an almost seamless terrace, a Corten steel bio-climatic pergola to extend their entertaining time, a quirky seat, a simple water-feature and the ability to cook and socialise with their friends.

The garden fulfils the brief, with an air of distinction and sophistication, this is achieved by the clever use of modern materials and a muted plant palette which incorporates neon accents to add vibrancy and energy.

The pergola provides shade, shelter and style in equal measures, enabling the couple to extend their entertaining season way past the dark or cold of night.  The rolling outdoor kitchen allows for a succinct alfresco dining experience with seconds between the flames and the plate. The reflective gravel pool creates a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The collective hue of the planting (if you squint your eyes) will hopefully be tyrian purple, so the intended colour spectrum will range from brown through purple, maroon, orange and white.

Picture an architectural overstory, a naturalised resplendent main course with blended back notes of verdancy and froth in equal measures; finely-textured rusty, edgy plants everything sewn together with flat, transitional foliage plants…
