Langdon Hills
This beautiful site in rural Essex, approximately an acre in size was just cut grass with a few old fruit tree when our clients first moved in.
There was no real brief except the couple wanted a garden to grow old together in, one where they could spend a cosy night around the fire or enjoy a lazy sunday afternoon sunning themselves. Neither had any experience when it came to nurturing a garden but both were eager to get their hands dirty. The land in the main garden sloped up into the corner so we suggested a central natural pool, carved into the ground, this meant huge excavations (circa 30 grab lorries) and then a curved retaining wall to hold the ground back.
The lake has a wildflower meadow surrounding it at the new ground level and then above the wall, a circular lawn acts as a path all the way round the garden, 40 trees were planted around the boundaries, these gave the garden an instant sense of establishment, we built this garden in 2017 and have remained in close contact with the clients guiding them through the establishment process and have also spent many pleasurable evenings in the garden with the owners who we now regard as close friends.
